A night on game design and a look going forward.

Tonight was the latest Philly IGDA meeting and once again it was a great night. We had roundtable discussions set up which naturally I went to the one regarding game design. This was my first time actually talking about game design amongst a group in person and not sitting here in front of a computer screen, and holy crap I was actually halfway sociable.

We talked about the problem with "fun" in video games and then moved onto game mechanics as a form of storytelling. I do have a blog entry formulating right now regarding one of our discussions and it was great just having a chat about game design. Also for everyone who I handed my card out to that are reading this I just want to say that chances are I will forget your names, yes even the two people I met who are named Josh. Please don't take it personally I'm just that bad with names. In other news I've gotten word from Corvus and the other BORT posters that it's starting up again soon which I can't wait.

Moving onward right now I'm working on a new game design document which I along with a group of gamers will try to actually turn into a video game. On a personal note I'm counting down to two very different events. One, I'm going to Vegas to visit my grandfather for his birthday; two I'm going to see a doctor in September. The problems that I have with my legs have gotten progressively worse and it’s about time that I finally get diagnosed with a disease or something. I'm excited and a little nervous about the doctor, as I've always been curious if there is something greater wrong with me.

Work is well boring the hell out of me, getting yelled at by people on a daily basis takes its toll. Anyway I'm crossing my fingers that a few prospects coming up will signal my escape from my current job. I do have a good feeling about the next couple of months, with major games events in Philly and the fact that I've gotten more publicity with my writing, means I can only hope that I'll be able to get a job in the industry soon.

Recently I bought the new Batman game and now I'm interested in finishing off my Batman the Animated Series collection and getting some comics as well. I'll have a review up soon but trust me, if you're a fan of Batman buy this game. Well I'm going to sign off for now and will hopefully have some new entries soon.
