A quiet moment of reflection on my insanity

For all intent and purposes I do think that I'm insane. Not insane as in running around screaming the aliens are here, but insane enough that normal society can look at my funny. I am sane enough though to be able to look at the insane parts of myself and sigh, case in point what I did earlier today. I decided to order the deluxe edition of Demon's Souls for the PS3, which sounds perfectly normal right? There is just one problem; I don't own a PS3 as I'm waiting for a sale to drop it just into the buy range for me.

"So Josh, why did you buy a game that you can't even play right now, much less the deluxe edition?" is what you're asking right now and you have every right to. I've asked that question a few times to myself today and each time I remember two little facts that come to mind.

1. Reading descriptions and discussions on Demon's Souls tell me that it is an uber hardcore action RPG where skill and tactics win over leveling and button mashing, in a beautiful fantasy world, where death is around every corner and a huge learning curve. For some that is a put off, for me that sounds like video game ecstasy. I love challenging well balanced games, where death is everywhere if you are not careful. I recently discovered Rogue like games at least a year ago with Shiren the Wanderer for the DS and since then I've been looking for something else to wet my appetite. Moving on let's talk about point # 2.

2. The game is published by Atlus, a company that I love for putting out niche challenging titles like this and of course Nocturne. Two other details about them are that they release great preorder bonuses and deluxe versions and two, they're games become rare fast. They are smart enough to know that they're games will never sell like The Sims or World of Warcraft and instead cater to the crazily hardcore niche gamers like yours truly. I almost missed out on playing Nocturne when the game disappeared a few years ago and I'm not letting a game that sounds so perfect for me to slip through my fingers.

So I sit here rubbing my hands in anticipation of my copy arriving soon, and trying to quiet the voice in my head saying that even when the game gets here I won't be able to play it. Well I just had to get that off my chest and I will now cling to the bargain sites for a PS3 sale so I can play this game.
